Science-fantasy RPG Torment: Tides of Numenera is getting a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The anticipated title, which is one of the top five highest-funded games of all time on Kickstarter, will simultaneously release on consoles and PC in Q1 next year.

“After the critical and commercial success of Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut on consoles, and with fans clamouring for it, it had been in our plans to bring Torment: Tides of Numenera to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” said inXile CEO Brian Fargo.

“We’re especially excited to be partnering with Techland [which will publish the title], who as developers themselves perfectly understand how to do a release without any compromise to the quality of the title.”

The console versions of Tides of Numenera will be officially showcased at this year’s Gamescom.

The game is a thematic successor to 1999 classic cRPG Planescape: Torment, one of the most exalted RPGs ever created. Numenera explores similar deep and personal themes of life, mortality, and sacrifice, challenging players to take intellectual stances and make moral decisions.

The pitch, courtesy of inXile:

Explore Earth one billion years in the future in the science-fantasy setting of Numenera. Discover the Ninth World built on the bones of eight advanced civilizations and leave your own mark on it. Make thousands of essential choices, face the consequences, and meet death incarnated as you seek the answer to the ultimate question: What does one life matter?

Numenera promises awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items, stunning feats of magic, a thoughtful character-driven story, deep replayability, and battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

However, it has seen no fewer than three delays, culminating in its 2017 release window.
