A Game Informer cover feature has shared a wealth of new information about Rise of the Tomb Raider.
In this sequel to the well-received 2013 reboot, Lara will travel to Siberia and beyond to discover the lost secrets of immortality.
According to NeoGAF, the environment will be the main antagonist in the game. Lara will be able to swim, climb trees, and hide in bushes. The main hub areas will be two to three times larger than those in Tomb Raider (2013).
There will be weather systems that human and animal enemies will react to. Animals and humans will also behave differently according to the time of day.
There will be more than one type of each weapon and Lara will be able to carry multiple bows with different attributes. When it comes to combat, Crystal Dynamics want there to be an element of planning involved. Lara will be able to use tools to distract enemies and lure them to more strategically desirable locations, however sneaking past everyone is not the goal. Game Informer said the combat was reminiscent of The Last of Us.
Crystal Dynamics is also placing a great emphasis on puzzles, claimed the report. There will be "nested puzzles" as they appeared in the last game, as well as multi-stage puzzles. The developer also wants to integrate combat and traversal challenges into puzzles.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360. Crystal Dynamics is focused exclusively on the new-gen version of the game, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris developer Nixxes is handling the last-gen edition.
