Titanfall will support a maximum of 12 players per match, supplemented with AI, says developer Respawn Entertainment.
Speaking with fans on Twitter, Respawn’s Vince Zampella said two teams of six “turned out to be the best balance with AI for us.”
Zampella didn’t say how many AI bots would populate each match, but said it would be “enough to make it fun” and that enemy players would be the “real threat”.
The community response was tinged with disappointment at what it perceived to be a low match size relative to competing titles, however Zampella said Respawn settled on the number after extensive testing.
“It is incredibly fun, we did a lot of testing. It is all about what we found most fun.”
Set in the near future on a distant frontier torn apart by war, Titanfall drops players in the middle of a conflict between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia.
Titanfall is due out on March 13, 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
