Avalanche Studios has announced that thanks to fan feedback, the protagonist of the upcoming Mad Max game will have an Australian accent.

“We’ve heard from the Mad Max fans who want Max to have an Australian accent in the upcoming Mad Max game,” the studio wrote on Facebook.

“We admire the fans for their loyalty and have taken the feedback seriously. We are happy to confirm that Max will have an Australian accent authentic to what the Mad Max fans know and love.”

Avalanche did not specify whether Max's voice would actually be provided by Australian, however.

The game was announced at E3, but Max's accent was distinctly American.

A petition immediately appeared, demanding an Aussie tackle the role.

Mad Max is an important part of Australian cinema and pop-culture history. However, the series is as equally important worldwide, and is arguably one of the most recognisable and referenced post-apocalyptic tales ever told,” it read.

Mad Max is coming to Windows PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One next year.
