Gamespot has broken the news that Catwoman will be a playable character in Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City.

The news comes via an interview with Dax Ginn, who went on to explain why Rocksteady decided to make Catwoman a playable character.

“With Catwoman we get a brilliant character who will allow gamers to indulge in a darker side. With Catwoman, you can take a walk on the wild side and take a break from being the defender of Gotham.”

Catwoman will feature unique gameplay mechanics including her own combat, gadget and navigational systems.

Batman: Arkham City is the sequel to the acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum. Gameplanet previewed Arkham City at the Game Developer’s Conference earlier this year.

The game is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in October, and will be shown at E3 next week.

Gameplanet will be reporting live from Los Angeles throughout E3, which runs from 7th-9th June (8th-10th June NZT).
