As we discovered in our video interview with the developers at E3, Need for Speed Shift will have a "driver profile system" which changes the way the game plays depending on your driving style. EA has now released some more details about this feature.
“The new driver profile feature in Need for Speed Shift gives players full control of how they progress through the game,” said Patrick Soderlund, senior VP at EA Europe. “In Shift, how you drive is who you are behind the wheel.”
Extending through the single player career and online multiplayer modes, driver profile gives each player a unique game experience based on the way each player drives on the track. Players will unlock different vehicles and customisation options, trigger special challenges and create rivalries based on their driver profile. This will create a taylor-made career mode for each player.
Driver profiles will be based on four key game play components:
- Personality - a player’s driving style determines whether they are an aggressive or precise driver.
- Success - as in every race, the ultimate goal is to finish at the top of the podium.
- Profile points - every car passed, every corner mastered, every opponent taken out generates profile points.
- Badges - these unique icons bring individuality and style to each player’s driver profile, as each player races and completes top achievements.
Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, EA is positioning Need for Speed Shift as a new direction for the franchise, taking on the likes of Forza and Gran Turismo. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers and designers from SimBin that worked on the critically acclaimed sims GT Legends and GTR 2.
Need for Speed Shift will be shipping in September for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP.
