It looks like a remastered version of the original Gears of War is coming to Xbox One.

Kotaku reports that a multiplayer test build is currently in the hands of a few people, and it features the following modes: Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and a number of sudden death single round modes.

According to Polygon, whose reporters have seen screenshots of the game, the remaster features improved lighting and textures.

A source has told that publication that the multiplayer runs at 60 frames per second, and another said that Brink and Dirty Bomb developer Splash Damage is working on the game.

Animation studio Plastic Wax is reportedly revamping the game’s cutscenes.

The Gears of War franchise is now in the hands of Microsoft, which has tasked Black Tusk – a studio led by former Gears developer Rod Fergusson – with creating the next Gears game.

Last year, Gears creator Cliff Bleszinksi said that the series didn’t end up being what he hoped it would be, but even so, Microsoft has high expectations for the next game.

Earlier this year, Black Tusk shot down rumours that a remaster of all four Gears games was in the works.

"I love the passion, but there's no Marcus Fenix Collection," Fergusson said in March.

"We ARE working on other exciting Gears projects. I'll see you at E3!"

Gears of War turns 10 years old next year.
