The qualifiers for the 2014 Call of Duty Championship are coming to New Zealand next month, Activision has announced.

The tournament is free to enter, and registrations for the New Zealand Qualifier are open now.

The New Zealand Qualifier will take place on February 1, and the winning team will be put through to the ANZ Regional Finals in Sydney for a shot at a AU$15,000 prize pool.

They will be joined there by three teams from an Australia Online Qualifier, and another four that will qualify via a LAN tournament in Melbourne.

The two best teams from the Regional Finals will head over to the Los Angeles to represent ANZ, and will face off against 30 other teams from around the world for a piece of the US$1m (NZ$1.2m) prize pool.

Players must be at least 18 years old as of January 9, and teams must include at least two players who are New Zealand residents.

“Last year’s championship came down to the final minute of the final match with everyone holding their breath to see who would win. said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg.

“The skill, passion and energy brought by these teams and the crowd looking-on showed just what makes our community the best in the world.”

More information is available on the tournament’s official MLG page.
