Bungie’s MMO-like console shooter Destiny will not require a subscription, says Activision.

At the game’s reveal event in Bungie’s Seattle offices last Thursday, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg addressed the question he felt was on everyone’s minds regarding the shared-world shooter.

"I can also see all the thought bubbles over all your heads: He said the words ‘persistent world' – is this going to require a subscription?” said Hirshberg.

“Let me rip this band aid off right here and tell you straight up that we have absolutely no plans to charge a subscription fee for Destiny."

Beyond that statement, Hirshberg refused to be engaged on the business model for the game.

Bungie previously said it is seeking to make Destiny “fun and accessible to all”, and wants “to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise”, with gameplay that is “social at its core”.
