The complete lack of female characters in the multiplayer of Gearbox’s upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines has triggered a petition demanding their inclusion.
The petition’s goal is the insertion of customisable female characters into the game’s competitive and co-op multiplayer modes before the game is released in February next year.
Organiser Melissa K has set a target of 1000 signatures. Once this number is reached, the petition will presumably be presented to Gearbox as well as Colonial Marines publisher Sega.
“You CANNOT play as a female marine. This is unacceptable for a game that makes such claims as are listed on its official website, made after a film franchise that has many strong female characters like Ripley, Vasquez, Ferro and Dietrich to name a few,” reads the petition.
“There are many females that enjoy playing video games and are fans of the films who are tired of playing as a male all the time. Let’s let Gearbox Software know what they are doing is not true to the franchise!”
Roughly 600 people have signed so far.
