Disney is looking to edge towards eSports programming with the airing of a TV special covering a Mario Kart 8 tournament.

The company's Disney XD channel will air Clash of Karts: Mario Kart 8, an hourlong special that sees kids competing against each other in the Nintendo racing game, coached by prominent YouTubers.

Earlier this year, Disney aired a special about the 2015 Nintendo World Championships.

Disney XD exec Marc Buhaj told Fortune that "there’s a real nice sense of camaraderie in the gaming community and it’s important to acknowledge that."

But he stressed the importance of taking it slow, saying that "how it’ll be covered for the kids’ audience is still something that remains to be seen."

In televising competitive video games, Disney is joining ESPN, which has signed deals with Microsoft and Valve to air Call of Duty and Dota 2 content.

The channel also airs Gaming Shot (In My Parents' Garage), which stars three teens doing game reviews, Let's Plays, interviews, and more.

Clash of Karts: Mario Kart 8 will air on Disney XD on December 5th.
