Sega has cancelled the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Its release had been in doubt for a while now, with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stating last month that it wasn’t his call.

"I think [port developer Demiurge Studios] did amazing work,” he said.

“I think it's really cool, but Sega's got to figure that out.”

A Sega rep told Kotaku: "Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date."

Meanwhile, Demiurge Studios, who oversaw the port to Wii U, said it was business as usual for the company following the cancellation.

"We were very sorry to hear about the cancellation of Aliens for Wii U, Demiurge CEO and cofounder Albert Reed told Gamespot.

“We are focused on making Shoot Many Robots for mobile kick ass and we've got another unannounced game in the works that we can't wait to unveil!"
