Indie Viking epic The Banner Saga will make its way to new-gen consoles next month.

Meanwhile, the PS Vita version of the game has been put on hold.

The Stoic-produced game won critical acclaim on its original launch in 2014 for its characters, tactical turn-based combat, and art style driven by 2D animation.

It was nominated for three BAFTA awards, and won the 2014 Game Developer's Choice award for Best Debut.

Steve Escalante, of publisher Versus Evil, said the console port will "merge the story and gameplay from Banner Saga with a refined controller interface to make it a very enjoyable console gaming experience."

The Banner Saga is available now for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android, and on January 12th 2016 for new-gen consoles.

A sequel to The Banner Saga is also due in 2016.
