Destiny will get a microtransaction-based in-game store on October 13th, Bungie announced today.
Accessible via the Tower hub, the Eververse Trading Company will only sell emotes and (eventually) other cosmetic items, and will not impact gameplay.
The eighteen emotes can be purchased using "Silver," a new in-game currency itself purchased with real money; some "free" Silver will be deposited into all accounts when the store launches.
Bungie stressed that the emotes are "completely optional," and that "you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped."
The store is part of a refocusing of how Bungie updates Destiny in its second year, going "beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests."
Kotaku's sources claim that, alongside paid cosmetic DLC, Bungie will release free quests and missions every so often until Destiny 2 lands in late 2016.
The Eververse Trading Company opens its digital doors on October 13th.
