Monolith's Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor took home eight awards at the 18th annual DICE Summit in Las Vegas last week, but lost Game of the Year to BioWare's Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit is an annual multi-day gathering of video game developers and executives held in Las Vegas.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that, after hearing the team behind Shadow of Mordor called to the stage time and again, there was an audible gasp of surprise when Inquisition claimed the top prize.

Inquisition won only one other award, for best RPG. The other big winner was Bungie's Destiny, which took home four awards.
