When most people think of the looter shooter sub-genre, they think of the Borderlands series. Borderlands essentially created the mould for what a looter shooter should be. Lots of shooting and lots of looting. I don’t think any other looter shooter loots or shoots as well as Borderlands 3 does. Borderland 3 is the best game in the series, not by breaking the mould, but by expanding and deepening it.

Writing a review for Borderlands 3 is an interesting proposition because honestly it really doesn't need one. Most everyone knows exactly what to expect from a Borderlands title. Lots of guns, enemies, bullets, bad jokes, and a core shoot and loot game loop that is honestly unmatched in the genre. Borderlands 1 was a fun, if somewhat shallow co-op shooter, but the guns, gunplay, and shooting were immediately engaging. Borderlands 2 added more depth with richer gameplay, deeper mechanics, and a metric butt-load more guns. It also gave us Handsome Jack an antagonist you loved to hate. The central story in Borderlands 2 added some much-appreciated drive to the experience and made the sequel a far more enjoyable experience for anyone choosing to play solo.

Gearbox reveals Borderlands 3 endgame content

Studios are constantly looking for ways to keep players invested in their games once the credits have rolled. For many gamers, the experience only truly begins once the endgame starts and in typical fashion, Gearbox is making sure to pack plenty of content into the eagerly anticipated Borderlands 3.

The developer took to the stage during PAX West to reveal how they intend to keep players hooked on the loop long after completing the main story. The three main features outlined by Gearbox during the presentation are the return of True Vault Hunter Mode, Guardian Rank and the addition of Mayhem Mode.

True Vault Hunter Mode is Borderland 3's equivalent of New Game Plus and will see players taking on the story again from the beginning, except this time they'll keep all of their attributes, skills and weapons from their first playthrough. Enemy difficulty will, of course, be increased to keep the combat fun and challenging during the second run.

To say I'm excited for Borderlands 3 would be a massive understatement. Like many of you, I've been a fan since the moment I entered the chaotic and crazy world of Pandora, so I couldn't be happier to confirm that Borderlands 3 is more of that same sweet, sweet magic that captured our hearts and trigger fingers a decade ago.

During a worldwide reveal event, Gearbox unveiled a massive chunk of gameplay and new details about the highly anticipated upcoming looter-shooter.

Gearbox has been paying very close attention to some of their contemporaries, and it shows. Movement is more fluid than ever before, with players now having the ability to climb up ledges. On top of this, players will also be able to perform the FPS-staple sprint slide.
