PlayStation 4 officially announced. "Supercharged PC architecture" with x86 CPU and PC GPU. 8GB unified memory. Local storage hard drive.
New Dual Shock 4 controller. Incorporates a touchpad, share button and "light bar". A separate camera unit can track the position of the controller.
PS4 CPU will have eight cores, CPU and GPU on the same die. GPU can be used for general computational tasks.
Suspend/resume function - the PS4 can be put to sleep, so that a game can be resumed instantly instead of having to switch the console completely off when not playing.
Sharing feature - instantly share a video of your gameplay online.
Personalisation - the system will learn your tastes in games and suggest titles you are more likely to be interested in. Eventually it could predict what game you'll want and download it to your console so it's ready to play immediately if or when you decide to purchase it.
Gaikai cloud gaming will be integrated into the PlayStation Store. Instantly try a game before buying.
Spectating - The share button will allow players to stream their gameplay live to their friends, and broadcast gameplay using uStream.
Remote Play - PS4 will be able to stream games to a PS Vita.
Backwards Compatibility - PS3 titles are not natively supported on PS4, but Sony is intending to use Gaikai technology - the PlayStation Cloud service - to make PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS Mobile games available on other platforms including PS4.
Immediacy is an important design goal of the new system. Players want things "right now", so Sony is trying to eliminate things that keep people waiting when they go to play a game.
PlayStation 4 will be released "Holiday 2013".

Guerilla Games revealed Killzone Shadowfall.
Evolution Studios is working on a team-based racing game called Driveclub.
Suckerpunch announced Infamous: Second Son.
Indie developer Jonathan Blow (Braid) is working on The Witness, a puzzle game. It will be coming to other platforms, but released first on PS4.
David Cage of Quantic Dream showed a demonstration of a new rendering engine running in real time on PS4, producing a very realistic model of an old man's face.
Media Molecule on overcoming "the tyranny of the polygon" - will be using the Move controller to make an intuitive interface for 3D sculpting, some kind of new LittleBigPlanet-type game for PS4.
Capcom is developing a new engine for PS4, codenamed Panta Rhei. Showed a new IP, working title Deep Down, with a fantasy theme - man with a sword fighting a dragon. Being developed concurrently with the new engine.
Square Enix is also developing a new engine called Luminous Studio. Working on a Final Fantasy game (not shown) for PS4, no further details but hinted that more will be revealed at E3 this year.
Ubisoft showed a live demo of Watch Dogs on PS4.
Blizzard's Chris Metzen announced they have entered into a strategic partnership with PlayStation to "take over the world". Will be bringing Diablo III to the PlayStation 4 and PS3.
Activision confirmed Bungie's new FPS Destiny will be coming to PlayStation 4. In-engine footage shown. PS4 and PS3 versions to be released at the same time. Will be creating exclusive content just for PlayStation. (Read our full preview of Destiny)
