Square Enix, the developer of Final Fantasy XIII and owner of the Final Fantasy franchise, has today announced that it has shipped more than five million units of Final Fantasy XIII.
The game has moved two million units in Japan and sent a further three million to the US and Europe.
These figures bring sales of the entire series to 96 million.
This is the first time the series has appeared on Microsoft’s Xbox console series. Yoichi Wada, Square Enix’s president, has said today that the studio ported the title to Xbox 360 because Microsoft “asked us” to.
“The Xbox team has been asking us to have a [Final Fantasy] game developed on our platform,” he said. “Also, the Xbox 360 console is available in many homes in US and European markets so that was not really a hard decision to make.”
