The next game from Journey developer thatgamecompany will be self-published after the Santa Monica developer secured more than US$7 million in funding.
There are scarcely any details surrounding the thatgamecompany's next project. The game will be "in the same spirit as flOw, Flower and Journey," said the developer.
"We'll also begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this next project and beyond," said the developer in a blog post.
The studio's last three titles were published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
Despite winning critical acclaim, thatgamecompany has struggled financially. Creative director and co-founder Jenova Chen said the studio was "almost bankrupt" by the time it finished Journey. Two top members of staff, including co-founder Kellee Santiago, left the company shortly after.
