Capcom has confirmed the worst-kept secret in videogames at the Tokyo Games Show by officially announcing a new Devil May Cry, called simply “DmC.”
DmC is in development at Heavenly Sword and Enslaved developer Ninja Theory.
DmC appears to wind the clock back, featuring a younger version of protagonist Dante. This new look has already raised the ire of some longstanding fans of the series.
Game website Destructoid quotes Ninja Theory's Tameen Antoniades as saying this new title “pulls inspiration from today’s rebellious youth.”
Here’s Capcom’s description of the game: “Set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC will depict a duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred. Spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation, Dante bursts into this world intent on revenge at any cost.
“DmC will retain the series’ signature mix of sword and gunplay but add additional weapons, all new powers and a revitalised gameplay system as players encounter the game’s devilish mix of enemies and navigate the rich, interactive environment.”
The game is in development for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
