The PC edition of Alan Wake made its money back in 48 hours on Steam, Remedy has announced.

Remedy self-published the title nearly two years after it was released on Xbox 360. The game came with all downloadable content, graphical improvements and stereoscopic 3D functionality – all for only US$ 29.99.

“We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing,” said Remedy’s Aki 'AJ' Järvilehto. “We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours.”

Those costs would have been significantly lower than building a game from scratch.

Alan Wake for Xbox 360 was a critical success but suffered at retail due to a competitive release window. To date, the game is reported to have sold 1.5 million copies.
