Doom will run at the hallowed 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second on all platforms, according to Id Software.

In a new instalment in its "22 Reasons To Love Doom" series, the developer highlighted the idTech 6 engine debuting with the shooter.

"We want players to wonder how Doom and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second," said lead project programmer Billy Khan.

Many modern games have limitations either in frame rate or resolution to guarantee reliable gameplay on a range of platforms, causing mass panic and occasionally house-swallowing sinkholes.

idTech 6's development team included staff formerly of Crytek, whose CryEngine is one of several game engines to have overtaken idTech since its Quake III glory days.

Doom launches on May 13th for new-gen consoles and PC.
