The League of Legends client is set to receive its first significant upgrade in six years, according to developer Riot Games.

Launching in alpha during 2016, the new client is designed fresh "from the ground up," increasing reliability and responsiveness.

The UI has been redesigned, which "unifies all sections of the client under a clear, visually consistent theme."

Social features have been upgraded as well, with options like Parties and Clubs geared towards playing with friends.

In-game, new and "focused" customisation options will give more, and clearer pathways to upgrade characters.

Matchmaking, queueing, and character selection will also be reworked to encourage team gaming and match high-level players with appropriate competitors.

Alpha signups will open just prior to the alpha period in 2016, with level 30 players with a history of good behaviour given priority.
