Set during the Stone Age (10,000 BC in movie-titling terms), Primal puts players in control of "seasoned hunter" Takkar, attempting to survive in a land "where humans are the prey."
The game will transplant the now-standard, "flexible" Far Cry open-world gameplay to a prehistoric time where humans were far from the top of the food chain.
Players will encounter prehistoric animals like woolly mammoths and sabretooth tigers, and craft fire, weapons, and tools in order to survive.
Said Ubisoft Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot, "Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind."
Ubisoft did not mention what would be standing in for radio towers in this instalment.
Far Cry Primal launches February 23, 2016 on new-gen consoles, and in March 2016 on Windows PC.
