First-person hero shooter Battleborn will launch in February, say publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software.

The MOBA-esque action game is the first non-Borderlands console release from the developer since 2013's lamentable Aliens: Colonial Marines.

At Gamescom 2015, Gearbox also announced that an open beta of the online title will run in advance of the game's release.

The developer also revealed four new playable heroes: assassin Mellka, priestess Ambra, bazooka-wielding alien Benedict, and space pirate Reyna, aka The Valkyrie.

Gameplanet's Matt Maguire got a hands-on demo of Battleborn earlier this year, and called it "massively ambitious."

Battleborn launches February 9, 2016, on new-gen consoles and PC.
