Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 will release for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Wii U on September 18, Comcept and Deep Silver have announced.

The game will be a digital-only release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but all other platforms will get a retail version as well.

Portable versions for PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS will follow at a later date.

Comcept has also announced that protagonist Beck’s rival Ray will be an unlockable playable character who may be used for the entire main game, adding unique skills and all-new gameplay mechanics to the title.

Created by Keiji Inafune, Mighty No. 9 features 12 stages; New Game Plus, Boss Rush, and Challenge modes; a two player online Race Battle mode; and regular and 8-bit music that the player can switch between on the fly.

It raised more than US$4m on Kickstarter, and gathered more cash via a secondary crowdfunding campaign on PayPal.
