A new patch for mech combat title Hawken adds new game modes, tutorials, and alpha level Oculus Rift support to the game.

The game's Ascension Update also improves matchmaking, and changes the way players level up, gain XP, and unlock upgrades for both their pilots and their mechs.

“The sweeping, dramatic changes of the new Player Progression update will offer players more control and customisation and provide more robust rewards for playing, including free mechs that unlock as the player progresses,” said Meteor.

Other new features include parties, clan support, revamped item and internal systems for mech customisation, and a brand new map called Last Eco.

The update will make it easier than ever for new players to jump into the game, while also adding more customisation and game polish, said Meteor chief production officer Bill Wagner.

“The update is a result of some of the fantastic feedback and support we’ve gotten from Hawken fans over the past several months.”

The full patch notes are available on the official Hawken forums.

Hawken is a free-to-play multiplayer mech shooter for Windows PC. It has been in open beta since December of last year.
