Blizzard is looking at possibly introducing microtransactions into World of Warcraft.
The discovery of a spell that doubles the speed of experience accumulation, along with a note referring to an in-game store led Blizzard to divulge its intentions.
“We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game,” wrote community rep Jonathan Brown on the Battle.net forum.
“As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR (Public Test Realms). We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.”
While World of Warcraft features an in-game store for pets and mounts, it does not currently offer an in-game microtransaction model.
