The release of Aliens: Colonial Marines on the Wii U is now in doubt.

The game was supposed to be coming to Nintendo’s console by the end of this month, but Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford doesn't seem so sure that it will see the light of day.

"We'll see," he told GameSpot. "That's not our call. I think [port developer Demiurge Studios] did amazing work. I think it's really cool, but Sega's got to figure that out.

"We're doing the best we can."

Publisher Sega and developer Demiurge declined to comment.

Last May, Gearbox stated that the Wii U version of Colonial Marines was the "best looking" due to that console's "more modern tech".

However, the game suffered through a long, tumultuous development on all platforms.

Last July there was an outcry when it was revealed that the game didn't feature any female marines, and later rumours swirled that Gearbox had outsourced the majority of its development, and redirected funds earmarked for the game to Borderlands 2 instead.

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of the game were not well received.
