Warner Bros. Games Montreal has announced that it is working on a prequel to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games.

Warner takes over development on the series from Rocksteady, and according to Game Informer has full access to that company’s custom modified Unreal engine.

Warner announces Batman: Arkham Origins, along with a Batman handheld title

Batman: Arkham Origins will find the Caped Crusader face-to-face with many supervillains for the first time, including assassin Deathstroke.

Arkham Origins creative director Eric Holmes is best known for his work as lead designer on The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype.

Batman: Arkham Origins is out October 25 on Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

In related news, Armature Studio is developing a handheld Batman title by the name of Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate.

Armature was responsible for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the Vita, and features several of the leads who worked on the Metroid Prime trilogy.

It will be a 2.5D Metroid-style exploration action game which takes place after the events of Arkham Origins.

Blackgate will also be out on October 25, for 3DS and Vita.
