Market intelligence company Nielsen has analysed the gaming market to determine the most–anticipated game releases for 2012 by console platform.

The data was derived from combining “eight key consumer metrics, including Awareness and Purchase Interest, into one overall score,” says Nielsen. “That score was then compared to scores from all previous games released on the same platform, to determine the percentile ranking of the upcoming title.”

According to the results, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers aren’t interested in any new intellectual property but are instead looking forward to blockbuster sequels from well-established franchises.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III, Rockstar’s Max Payne 3, Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 and EA’s Madden NFL 13 by and large compose the most-anticipated titles for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Xbox 360 gamers are looking forward to three platform exclusives, Halo 4, Kinect Star Wars and Fable: The Journey. Similarly, Wii owners are looking forward to exclusives, The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles. However, no PlayStation 3 exclusives made the most-anticipated list for Sony’s platform.

Unlike the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 lists, the Wii’s most-anticipated games include several licensed tie-ins such as “Battleship” and “Men in Black”.
