Electronic Arts is exploring the possibility of a subscription fee model in the future of the Battlefield series.

When asked by VentureBeat whether the publisher might implement a subscription model in the future, EA’s games boss Patrick Soderlund said, “I think it's fair to say that we're looking at that. Like all other companies, we're looking at how we can maximise our investment in this and get the most out of our investment and get more people playing this product.

“That may take us to different places, but we're not really talking about where that is yet.”

Activision recently added an optional premium subscription model for Call of Duty, called Elite. Those who choose to subscribe to Elite get downloadable content at no extra cost months ahead of the general public.
