Double Fine Adventure, the studio’s foray into crowdsourcing development costs on Kickstarter, passed its goal of US$400,000 in 8 hours, and has set new records on the service.
Double Fine boss Tim Schafer tweeted this morning, “Kickstarter records so far: Most funds raised in the first 24 hours. Highest number of backers of all time, and growing!”
As the project built up unprecedented steam on Kickstarter, Schafer wrote, “Wow, thanks to all the Backers of our Kickstarter project! You guys are going to make me tear up. If I weren't so damn tough, I mean.”
As was widely reported yesterday, Schafer and the team at Double Fine are seeking the funds to develop a new adventure game, something he claims traditional publishers are unwilling to back.
With $903,927 pledged at the time of writing, Double Fine Adventure is now close to raising $1 million within 24 hours.
