Sony has announced a new version of the PlayStation Portable at Gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany.
Pitched as a budget option, the PSP-E1000 will have a recommended retail price of NZ$179.95, and will be supported by a range of “PSP Essentials”, each retailing at approximately NZ$19.95, and titles such as Invizimals: The Lost Tribe and EyePet Adventures.
The PSP E-1000 won't include wi-fi, but will have access to the full range of PSP games, both UMD and on the PlayStation Store via Media Go.
Earlier this year, Sony announced its next generation handheld, the PlayStation Vita, due in Western markets in 2012. It recently discontinued its PSP Go handheld after it underperformed at market. “Few would have predicted the unveil [sic] of the brand new PSP,” writes Sony on the official PlayStation blog.
Sony has not announced a release window for the PSP-E1000.
