THQ has today announced they will lay off around 600 staff, or 24% of their workforce, amid falling game sales and general economic downturn.

"Our focus for next fiscal year is to return to profitability and to generate cash," CEO Brian Farrell said in a statement. "Our fiscal 2010 plan will reflect the benefits of our focused product strategy and strong actions on costs."

THQ has reported a net loss of US$192 million for the quarter ended December 31st 2008. They had previously earned US$15.5 million for the same financial period in 2007.
