Paradox Interactive today released the first trailer of the upcoming strategy title Europa Universalis Rome. Due for release at some point in April, the trailer shows how to trade resources in your country and negotiate with your neighbours, select ideas and research new ones, build buildings, invoke "omens", study your family tree to determine your enemies and wage war over land and sea.

Europa Universalis Rome will also feature a full 3D map with integrated graphics and detailed topography. You'll also be able to start at any date between 280 B.C. and 27 B.C. and Choose between 10 different cultures, including the Roman, Celtic, Greek and Egyptian civili­zations, with more than 53 playable factions on a map spanning hundreds of provinces.

There's a fair bit of competition out there for the PC strategy genre at the moment, so it'll be interesting to see just how Europa Universalis Rome stacks up. Check out the trailer below:
