DreamHack has broken its previous record as the world’s largest computer festival. The record was announced on Saturday by the Swedish Minister of IT, Åsa Torstensson, who visited DreamHack, with 10,455 computers connected to the LAN compared with the previous record of 8,531 computers.
The total number of participants during the whole festival is currently not yet known. At DreamHack Winter 2006 a total of 10,638 visited the festival, a number that will be beaten by "a few thousand" according to organisers.
"To break the five digit barrier has been a dream for a long time. We are very proud over (sic) the new record and over (sic) everyone that makes DreamHack and the record reality," said David Garpenståhl, DreamHack’s chairman.
The official paper work is currently being put together to be sent in to Guinness World Records.
