Following the addition of Philips Ambx compatibility to V8 Supercars Race Driver 3, patches are to be available for Overlord immediately and Clive Barker’s Jericho by the end of the year at ambx.com.
Shorthand for ‘ambient experiences’, Ambx delivers a full ‘sensory surround experience’ by allowing developers to use light, colour, sound, rumble and even air flow through enabled devices, including the Philips Ambx PC Gaming Peripherals range of LED colour-controlled lighting, rumble peripherals and variable speed desktop fans.
“The patches for Overlord and Clive Barker’s Jericho demonstrate that we can Ambx-enable games even after launch, making them fully Ambx-enabled and quickly distribute them to gamers through the ambx.com website and magazine covermounts,” commented Jo Cooke, Chief Marketing Officer, Philips Ambx. “These great games continue to build on our relationship with Codemasters, which will see us Ambx-enable many more titles from this award-winning British publisher over the coming months.”
Philips is licensing the Ambx technology to computer game developers, publishers and peripherals manufacturers and Codemasters joins a rapidly growing list, including THQ, Introversion, Gearbox Software, Zombie, Riot Games, Brain in a Jar, Invictus Games, Instinct Technology, Kuju, Revolution, Sumo Digital, Rivers Run Red, Philips Peripherals & Accessories and SpectraVideo.
Games which are Ambx compatible include Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, Clive Barker's Jericho, Darwinia, DEFCON, Overlord, Supreme Commander and Race Driver 3. Over 100 titles are also compatible with the FXGenerator and a full list, searchable by genre and publisher, can be found at ambx.com.
Philips is currently in the closing stages of agreements with a number of other high profile companies regarding enabling and modding "all kinds" of games.
