Xfire, eight million users strong and a division of MTV Networks, has announced the inclusion of its proprietary voice chat functionality in Flagship Studios’ upcoming PC title, Hellgate: London.
Using Xfire’s peer-to-peer communication system, gamers have the ability to chat with fellow gamers without needing to manage a standalone voice server. Additionally, online game players will be able to log in to Xfire from within Hellgate, enabling them to easily add their friends and other Hellgate: London gamers into an Xfire voice chat room where they can chat as they play. Xfire supports more than 800 of the most popular PC games worldwide.
“By integrating Xfire’s voice chat feature into Hellgate: London, we are able to strengthen our online community and make it even easier for our players to connect together online,” said Tyler Thompson, Technical Director of Flagship Studios. “The Xfire package will bolster the overall gaming experience for our users.”
Flagship Studios, founded by the creators of the Diablo franchise, stay true to their action-packed roots with their premier game. Set in the streets and undergrounds of a post-apocalyptic London, Hellgate: London has been described as the spiritual successor to the Diablo series. Players can view the game from both first- and third-person perspective and arm themselves with over 100 magical and sci-fi weapons. Hellgate: London was designed with Flagship’s philosophy of “random generation”, which allows players countless hours of replayability as no two game play experiences are the same.
Xfire is a free, advertiser-supported product. In addition to the many friend tracking and multiplayer communication services, Xfire is also one of the largest hosts of online gaming events on the Internet. Xfire and its advertisers sponsor online events where members can play with pro gamers, join in online chats with celebrities and participate in machinima contests involving their favorite games.
