Today marks the launch of the PlayStation 3 in PAL territories, with a number of stores holding the traditional midnight opening at GPStore and chain stores in the main centres. The day also marks the first birthday of the New Zealand launch of the Xbox 360, with over 35,000 units now sold.

Last night's PlayStation 3 events in New Zealand included the only official console event of the current generation consoles, with Sony Computer Entertainment holding an elaborate private function in Auckland.
