Work has finished for Rune II, with Human Head Studios releasing the game to storefronts this week – however the developer has just announced that the game will be the studio's last.

In an update to its community blog, Human Head confirmed that the studio will be closing down.

"After 22 great years of making games as an independent studio, economic realities have forced us to make the decision to wind down the company and close its doors," said Human Head community manager Katherine Stull.

Founded in 1997, Human Head was the original developer of Prey, and also contributed to titles like Batman: Arkham Origins and BioShock Infinite.

The studio's closure however, is not the final chapter for the development team. A new studio is forming as part of Bethesda, called Roundhouse Studios.

"The entire staff has been offered new roles with Bethesda, and it’s exciting to know that our team, which has accomplished so much together, for so long, can continue doing what we love,” said Stull.

Based in Wisconsin, Roundhouse Studios will immediately begin work on unannounced projects at Bethesda.
