With the imminent release of Shadowkeep, and a five-year roadmap for the direction of Destiny, one might think the studio has its hands full – but CEO Pete Parsons begs to differ.

In an interview with IGN, Parsons stated that "by 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace."

That "transformation" is already well underway, with Destiny 2 shifting to a free-to-play model alongside the release of its latest expansion.

The shift comes after the developer's split from Activision, which has since seen new features come to the game like cross-save between platforms, an upcoming release to Google's Stadia console, and the game's migration on PC from the Battle.net launcher to Steam.

As for new properties, eagle-eyed fans have previously spotted a trademark application by Bungie for a new game called Matter – likely a product of the $100 million investment by Chinese publisher, NetEase.

The game's genre and story still remain a mystery, so for now we'll have to speculate whether its a third-person fantasy title, arcade platformer, or pachinko machine.
