Final Fantasy VII Remake may have taken five years from its announcement to release, but Square Enix is saying that won't be the case for subsequent games in the series.

In a series of tweets, producer Yoshinori Kitase noted that "due to the work already done on the first game we anticipate development of the second game to be more efficient."

The first title in the Remake series was confirmed to be releasing March 3, 2020 during Square Enix's E3 Showcase this week.

The game will take place completely within the city of Midgar; a section which made up roughly a quarter of the original game's content.

In the process of remaking the game, Midgar has now been expanded into a full game unto itself, with the team saying it will need to ship on two blu-ray discs due to the amount of content.

Whether we'll see the same level of expansion in subsequent FFVII Remake titles is yet to be seen.
