Following a less-than-warm reception to its trailer earlier this week, Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler has pledged to redesign the titular character.
“You aren’t happy with the design & you want changes,” said Fowler on Twitter. “It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”
Since its debut on Tuesday, numerous criticism has been levelled at Sonic's design – notably his elongated frame, inclusion of teeth, and head shape. Some fans even took to reworking the character to bring him more in-line with his classic appearance:
While the redesign is great news for fans, designers working on the film are likely to be under the gun for the coming months in order to be finished by Sonic's November release.
Animation and Visual Effects are being handled by Blur Studio, Digital Domain, Industrial Light & Magic, and MPC.
Here's hoping the costs of the redesign don't cost as much as an infamous CGI moustache.
