Niantic has revealed a number of new details about its upcoming mobile game based in the Harry Potter world.

Titled Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the game is coming to iOS and Android devices later this year and will feature augmented reality similar to the studio's hugely successful Pokemon Go.

The setting for Wizards Unite is as follows...

"A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these 'Foundables,' and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes."

"Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing The Calamity."

Similar to Pokemon Go, players are tasked with rounding up magical items and creatures, while also doing battle with the likes of werewolves and death eaters in order to keep the world of magic secret from muggles.

Unlike Pokemon Go players won't be divided into teams, but instead offered three classes from which to choose – the Magizoologist, the Professor, and the Auror. Each will have specific abilities that will compliment gameplay in groups when teaming up for challenges.

Throughout the world of Wizards Unite, there will also be Inns that let players replenish their energy, as well as portkeys that will transport players to 360 settings from the Harry Potter universe.

Sign ups are available now on the Google Play store, although wizards and witches on iOS will have to wait a little longer.
