According to a recent trademark filed by Square Enix, we could be seeing the return of Parasite Eve.
Originally making its debut all the way back in 1998 on the original PlayStation, Parasite Eve acted as a sequel to Hideaki Sena's 1995 Novel. The game was well-received by critics and spawned a sequel one year later in 1999. Following a lengthy absence, the series made its return in 2010 with The 3rd Birthday
on the PlayStation Portable.
Parasite Eve never quite managed to reach the commercial success enjoyed by its peers, but still managed to gain a rather sizable cult-following. There's not an awful lot of info in the trademark filing but it's clearly for "computer game software" so we don't need to start worrying about another terrible Hollywood movie just yet.
While I can't imagine we'll get an entirely new sequel, a remaster would be the safest bet for Square Enix, similar to what Capcom is currently doing with the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
What do you think? Would you be keen for a remake or would you prefer a brand new entry in the series?
