Fox21 has secured the rights to develop a TV series based on DONTNOD Entertainment's recent blood sucking RPG, Vampyr. Wonderland Sound & Vision and DJ2 Entertainment are set to handle the television adaptation.

The production companies in question have helped create some amazing TV shows already like Sons of Anarchy, The Chi and The Americans, so the Vampyr franchise looks to be in good hands.

DONTNOD CEO Oskar Guilbert stated “we believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show. This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with VAMPYR’S rich, deep story. We cannot wait to see how the talented team at FOX21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television.”

When Vampyr release back in June, we enjoyed it and thought it "took a few risks, and travels a darker, less explored path. It may stumble in the dark a little, and some of the rougher edges can snag and pull you off the path from time to time, but the journey is exciting, fresh, and always interesting". The game has a fascinating story and setting that could translate very well to television if handled right.

Video game adaptations almost always seem to have a plethora of issues getting in to full production mode, so we may never see a Vampyr TV show make it past the early stages.

More and more companies are starting to look to bringing Video Game stories to other media forms with the recent announcement that Netflix picked up the rights to a series based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher books which also spawned a critically acclaimed series of games.
