Halo fans can rest assured; Halo Infinite will not be a prequel or spinoff, despite its title lacking a definitive number.

343 lead writer Jeff Easterling addressed the question during a recent 343 Social Stream on Mixer (at the 1:22:20 mark).

"It is Halo 6. You should just consider it Halo 6," said Easterling. "Don't think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It's the next story. It's the next chapter in what is going on."

Halo Infinite was announced during Microsoft's E3 Conference this year. With this confirmation, it will act as the sequel to 2015's Halo 5: Guardians and will focus more on the story of Master Chief this time around.

343 has also indicated it has no interest in adding battle royale to the game.
