Breaking news: Bethesda is teasing something Fallout related.

Ordinarily I’d wait for something resembling an announcement before writing a news story, but we’re in the pre-E3 lull, so this story has somehow made the cut.

The publisher started things off on Twitter with the familiar Fallout TV channel image and the hashtag #PleaseStandBy.

It then began streaming on Twitch. Over the past 12 hours there has been the same “stand by” image on a TV in the background, while a Vault Boy figurine stands in the foreground. Every now and then, a Bethesda staffer has given the thumbs up to the camera, or done a puppet show, but really, nothing is happening.

Fallout 4 was announced at E3 in 2015 and released the same year.

Online, people are theorising that Bethesda is teasing a remaster of either Fallout 3 (which is 10 years old later this year) or New Vegas (wishful thinking?), or Fallout Shelter 2.

Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian said it wasn't involved, tweeting, "How do you let someone down easily? Asking for a friend. #ItsNotUs"

If the game in question is a major Fallout title Bethesda has done well to stop any and all leaks – details of Fallout 4 hit the net months before its official reveal.

Whatever the case, publishers are realising that making announcements prior to E3 isn’t a silly idea as much gets lost in the expo’s rush of news.
