You may have heard that a little something called the Xbox One X launched on Monday.
Thanks to geography, New Zealand customers were the first in the world to get their hands on Microsoft's new console. However, some got theirs before shops even opened.
Auckland mum Tarls Murray was the first person in the world to get an Xbox One X when her Project Scorpio Edition was hand-delivered to her doorstep by Dan Livingstone, who in 2013 was the first person in the world to receive the original Xbox One.
Reflecting the power of the console, Dan and the console arrived in a Lamborghini Superleggera – the most powerful car currently in New Zealand.
Xbox’s other Kiwi superfans – Ian, Kate and Searle - also received their Xbox One X before midnight in “supercar style”, making them the first gamers in the world to get an Xbox One X. They were selected via competition to find NZ’s most passionate Xbox fans by Mighty Ape Games.
New Zealand’s midnight event was the first in a series of worldwide launch celebrations including Sydney, London, Paris and New York.
Microsoft has posted a video on Facebook showing the highlights of Monday night’s Xbox One X launch celebrations in Auckland.
